TransLink is opening the latest Canada Line station in Richmond on Friday.

The Capstan Station - located between Bridgeport and Aberdeen stations - will have a grand opening at 11 a.m.

After the official grand opening, the station will be open.

In attendance will be TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn, Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie and Musqueam Indian Band Chief Wayne Sparrow.

The Capstan Station has been under construction since 2021.

On an average weekday in 2019, there were more than 37,000 customers riding the Canada Line between those Bridgeport and Aberdeen stations, according to TransLink.

The station is intended to support the growing Capstan Village community with between 4,000 to 6,000 new residential units in the making.

Costs of the $52-million project were shared between TransLink and the City of Richmond with support from developers.
