The Chabad of Richmond will be hosting its 13th annual Seder celebration on March 25 at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel.
The Seder is a ritual feast, which marks the beginning of Passover, the annual Jewish holiday and celebrates the freedom of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt.
The Chabad will be serving a traditional Passover meal including Matzah, wine, grape juice, gefilte fish, chicken soup, horseradish, charoset a sweet paste made of fruit and nuts a main course and more.
Hosting the Seder will be the directors of the Chabad of Richmond, Rabbi Yechiel Baitelman and his wife Chanie.
One of the primary commandments of the Passover Seder is telling the story of the exodus to our children, said Baitelman. We recall and tell the story of the exodus as it has been told for generations by parents to children, by grandparents to grandchildren.
This years Seder theme is A Link in the Chain of History and participants are invited to come down and discover the eternal meaning of the Haggadah and enjoy a community Seder, according to the Chabads website.
Every generation, indeed every Jew is a link in the chain of history, said Baitelman. An unbroken chain of telling the story extending back over 3,300 years to when our grandparents left Egypt.
There is no charge for the Seder and donations are accepted. Suggested donations are $36 for adults, $18 for children and $180 for sponsors. The event is primarily for Jewish people to celebrate, said Baitelman, but is open to the public.
