Chinese-language reality dating show recruiting in Richmond

A new show wants to get away from the 'awkwardness of traditional matchmaking events'

“Would you be open to dating someone of a different nationality in the future?”

This was one of the questions posed to potential participants of a new Chinese-language reality dating show.

Meet Me Here is the first North American television show that mainly focuses on dating among Chinese Canadians.

Producers of the new show were recently at the Richmond Night Market recruiting participants.

They had set up a photo booth, gave away free balloon flowers and prepared a Q & A session to find suitable participants for Meet Me Here.

“We also care about their responses, and would like to explore the possibility of increasing diversity in this program,” explained Adele Wu, director of Meet Me Here.

Wu previously produced a highly popular matchmaking program, Take Me Out, in China for 20 years.

After moving to Canada, people around her always asked, “Could you help me, my friend or my child find a partner?”

“I found this demand for matchmaking in Greater Vancouver is quite necessary, especially within the Chinese-Canadian community,” Wu said. ”We should have a platform that fits the mainstream preference for this young generation.”

The producers of Meet Me Here will offer various social events, such as hiking, to different age groups, catering to different interests.

“We want to offer a new lifestyle for Greater Vancouver singles, allowing everyone to engage without the awkwardness of traditional matchmaking events,” she said.

Meet Me Here is currently in the stage of recruiting participants, and they plan to start filming at the end of August or early September this year.

The first filming location will be in Greater Vancouver, Wu explained, however, a broadcasting platform for the show has yet to be announced.

Wu said they are looking for singles with “interesting personalities and a desire to express themselves.”

The next recruitment will be held on Saturday, June 8 at BGM Studio on No.3 Road.
