The City of Richmond is seeking personal artwork submissions for its 32nd Street Banner Contest.

Until Sept. 15 at 5 p.m., artists of all ages and abilities are encouraged to submit their concepts of Richmond’s unique places and experiences.

Artistic submissions can include a wide range of mediums like photography, graphic design, watercolour, oil painting and collage, according to the city.

These must depict Richmond in one of the following categories: Arts, Culture and Heritage; Community; Diversity; Island City; Nature; Play; Sports and Recreation; Sustainability; Urban Landscape; or Wildlife.

A jury of five local artists and staff members will narrow down the submissions to 20 finalists, which will then be put to a public vote online.

Ten designs will be selected from the vote and showcased on 1,000 street banners throughout the city.

Winners will be announced in spring of 2025 and awarded $300 alongside their printed design.

In 2023, there were over 350 artwork submissions made.
