Classroom ventilation program completed at Richmond elementary schools

Twelve Richmond schools received new mechanical ventilation systems.

A Richmond School District ventilation program focusing on improving air quality at 12 elementary schools has been completed.

The district's Classroom Ventilation Program started in March 2022 to enhance the learning environments for students and staff at elementary schools in the city.

Mechanical ventilation systems, completely funded by the Richmond Board of Education, were installed to improve air quality while being energy efficient at the schools.

"These upgrades ensure that our schools meet modern standards for safety and comfort, while providing optimal learning environments for our students and staff," said Heather Larson, chair of the Richmond Board of Education.

"The success of this program underscores our dedication to innovative solutions that enhance educational experiences and safeguard the health and well-being of our community.”

A total of 193 systems that service 262 rooms including libraries, staff rooms and offices were completed within a 16-month period.

The schools that benefited from the ventilation upgrades were:

  • Manoah Steves Elementary
  • Walter Lee Elementary
  • Blundell Elementary
  • Donald E. McKay Elementary
  • William Cook Elementary
  • Garden City Elementary
  • R.C. Grauer Elementary
  • Thomas Kidd Elementary
  • Daniel Woodward Elementary
  • Alfred B. Dixon Elementary
  • W.D. Ferris Elementary
