Richmond city councillors will look at the B.C. Government's proposed coastal marine strategy plan at Monday's general purposes (GP) committee meeting.

The strategy is proposing a plan to address priorities for coastal marine ecosystem health and community well-being, which will be addressed at 4 p.m. today.

According to a city staff report, city councillors will review an outlined general feedback and if endorsed, the comments will be forwarded to the provincial government for the future Draft Coastal Marine Strategy that is expected in mid-2023.

Meanwhile, city staff is encouraging councillors to authorize a grant application of $50,000 with the UBCM Poverty Reduction Planning and Action Program to help fund poverty reduction projects.

Proposed projects include developing a pilot program offering peer-to-peer resource navigation at multiple Richmond libraries, according to the city staff report.

"The main goals of the project are to offer navigation supports that address identified needs in the community; to provide vulnerable residents with increased access to community resources outside of the City Centre area and traditional service hours; and to promote greater social inclusion by expanding peer and community-based networks," reads the report.

Planning committee (Tuesday)

Councillors will be looking at a housing agreement that could see another 16 units of affordable housing in a condo building on Westminster Highway, just east of No. 3 Road, at this week's planning committee meeting.

The rental units will be clustered on the fourth and seventh floors of the 15-storey condo building.

In the proposed housing agreement, there is a maximum income for those who can rent the units and there can't be any age restrictions on renters.
