The City of a Richmond is proposing to incorporate rooftop solar panels for new buildings.
This is on the agenda for Monday's general purposes committee meeting.
Before that, a delegate from a sewing group will be speaking to council on the city's single-use plastic ban.
City council is looking to advance building electrification and on-site low carbon energy systems by using rooftop solar PV systems and engaging local builders and developers as part of the plan, according to a city staff report.
Staff highlighted that the proposed rooftop solar panels for new buildings would support the city's Community Energy and Emissions Plan 2050.
Meanwhile, council will look at the proposed changes to federal electoral district boundaries for Richmond.
If approved, Steveston-Richmond East will become Richmond East and include areas of Delta and New Westminster as part of the new electoral district.
Changes to electoral districts would not be in effect until April 1, 2024.
Also on the agenda, Counc. Carol Day is recommending council to write to the federal governemnt, Minister of Environment and local politicians to ban marine scrubbers in Canadian waters.
Marine scrubbers use alkaline water to transfer harmful air pollutants into waste water that is dumped into coastal waters, according to the report.
"The dumping of this waste water is a threat to aquatic organisms and causes dead zones," wrote Day.
