It appears that COVID-19 has caused the temporary closure of two Richmond medical labs - which offer COVID-19 testing.
According to LifeLabs' website, the city’s “Aberdeen” office at 4151 Hazelbridge Way is closed temporarily, as is the one on Gilbert Road.
The closures come as 10 other LifeLabs locations - including three in Vancouver, two on the Island and the rest across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley - suffered a similar fate yesterday, along with reduced hours at 11 other sites in the same regions.
There are five other LifeLab locations in Richmond, which appear to be operating as normal, as of Wednesday morning.
The company, which offers things like blood, ECG, and COVID-19 testing, has reportedly sent out an email to health-care providers across the province.
“Canada continues to see record-breaking COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations because of the highly transmissible Omicron variant, and healthcare employers across the country are experiencing staff shortages,” the screenshotted notice reads.
“With the increasing cases of Omicron and pandemic protocols, LifeLabs has made the difficult decision to temporarily close and/or reduce hours for weeks at select BC Patient Service Centres experiencing significant staffing shortages.”
