Grade 5 students at Manoah Steves elementary received certificates from Richmond RCMP after successfully graduating from the DARE Program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education).

DARE is an internationally recognized program founded in Los Angeles in 1983 which provides children with the information and skills needed to live drug- and violence-free lives.

In preparation for the students graduation ceremony, they were asked to write a brief essay about the important life lessons theyd learned.

Ten-year-old Sara Jones was one of three students selected to share their essays with her classmates and family members in attendance. Sara wrote about the importance of not giving in to negative peer pressure, the dangers and health risks associated to smoking cigarettes and bullying.
