A Delta man has pleaded guilty to a violent outburst at the Ironwood Plaza McDonald’s back in 2021 that was caught on a viral TikTok video.
William David Scott Jolly appeared by video before Richmond Provincial Court on Wednesday morning.
He was originally scheduled to appear for a trial expected to last two and a half days, but instead pleaded guilty to three counts: mischief over $5,000, assault with a weapon and assault of a peace officer
According to the Crown, Jolly had knocked over a hand sanitizer stand after waiting some time to be served at the McDonald’s on July 27, 2021.
The manager then refused to serve Jolly and offered to give him a refund, at which point Jolly proceeded to “destroy various pieces of equipment.” Repairs for such equipment amounted to around $8,300.
During Jolly’s outburst, he pushed items onto the manager, causing her to fall over. Jolly later left the McDonald’s and went to a nearby liquor store and bought liquor, which he drank in the parking lot. When police attended the scene, Jolly assaulted one of the officers while they tried to apprehend him.
Judge Bonnie Craig accepted Jolly’s guilty pleas and ordered a pre-sentencing report with a psychiatric component to be completed in the next eight weeks.
Jolly will return to court on Jan. 18, 2023 where counsels will confirm the pre-sentencing report was done and set a date for sentencing.
