Driver critical after car flips in Richmond

River Road claims another victim; with icy conditions partly to blame this time

A driver is in critical condition after his car skidded off the road, flipped and landed upside down in a water-filled ditch.

The accident happened in the 21000-block of River Road just before 8:30 a.m. on Monday, not far from where a cyclist was killed in a head-on crash last November.

Two Good Samaritans were trying to extricate the driver trapped in the submerged car when Mounties arrived at the scene.

While Richmond RCMP’s Cpl. Dennis Hwang said icy road conditions were a factor at the time of accident, he added that police are still probing other possible causes.
