A drunk driver who ended up in a ditch in Richmond was rescued – by another drunk driver.

A Richmond resident told the Richmond News how he was aware of a driver ending up in the ditch late at night on Gilbert Road, just south of Steveston Highway, on Friday, Sept. 3.

He said the driver who somehow ended up in the ditch was later “picked up by another drunk driver and both were caught and charged.”

Indeed, Richmond RCMP confirmed to the News that it arrived at the scene at around 11:30 p.m. on Friday for a “single vehicle collision into a ditch.”

According to police, the driver of the black Mercedes in the ditch was the sole occupant.

However, prior to the Mounties’ arrival, the driver of the Mercedes “attempted to leave in another vehicle, but police were able to stop it.

“The ensuing investigation resulted in both the driver involved in the collision, as well as the driver who picked him up, being issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition.”

Both vehicles, say police, were also impounded for 30 days.
