Thanksgiving long weekend is upon us, and Richmond is busier than ever. To get your planning started, we've brainstormed a list of eight family-friendly events to check out this weekend.

1. Circus Osorio

The American Crown Circus has returned to Richmond after six years — just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. Richmondites are invited to run away with the circus at Lansdowne and enjoy performances including light shows, aerial artists, aerial hoops, rola-bola balancing act and more.

Dates: Oct. 6 to Oct. 10, 2022.

2. Culture Days: Nature Art Exhibition

Check out the works of student artists from R.M. Grauer and T. Homma elementary who attended nature art workshops by local artist Bea Martin. The workshops and free exhibition at Branscombe House are presented by the Richmond Arts Coalition in partnership with the Richmond School District.

Date and time: Oct. 8, 2022, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

3. Culture Days: Behind the scenes of Ninja X The Graphic Novel

Artist Laura Rivera will be opening her studio at Richmond Arts Village Hub (near Sexsmith Rd. and Hazelbridge Way), where visitors can get a free look behind the scenes at how a graphic novel gets made. Visitors will receive an exclusive sticker and a comic page of their own to fill up.

Date and time: Oct. 8, 2022, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

4. Culture Days: The 8th Canada Multicultural Creative Festival

Celebrate community and culture at WS Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society's free annual festival at 8828 Sidaway Rd. near Blundell Rd. Visitors can build community connections while enjoying delicious food and cultural performances and participating in lucky draws.

Date and time: Oct. 8, 2022, 12:30 to 3 p.m.

5. Culture Days: Recipe Exchange Workshop

Richmondites are invited to join a free recipe exchange workshop held by Cinevolution Media Arts Society, where they can share recipes and their migration experiences. The in-person workshop will be held at the Chinese Bunkhouse at Britannia Shipyards and registration is required.

Date and time: Oct. 8, 2022, 2 to 4 p.m.

6. Culture Days: Learn about Chinese aromas at XIANG OF CHINA demonstrations

Learn about China's various forms of incense and try making your incense products at JJW Aromas Studio's free XIANG OF CHINA demonstrations. Visitors will also get to see the ceremonial performance of making incense without smoke, a popular practice during the Song dynasty.

Dates: Oct. 6 to 12, 2022, 1 to 4 p.m.

7. The Richmond FC and Richmond United Thanksgiving tournament

Two Richmond youth soccer clubs are teaming up to co-host the annual Thanksgiving tournament this year, and they're set to break attendance records with 186 teams competing. Extra fields and food trucks will be set up for the family-friendly celebration.

8. The Richmond Night Market

For those who've been meaning to check out the Richmond Night Market but keep procrastinating, this weekend is your last chance. This year's night market will be wrapping up on Oct. 10, so check it out before it's too late!
