A moonlight procession will take place in Minoru Park to celebrate mid-autumn.

Gateway Theatre will host its annual Moonlight Magic: A Mid-Autumn Celebration event on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.

All ages are invited to participate on this important date of the lunar calendar.

The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival celebrates the full harvest moon, symbolizing peace, prosperity and union.

It takes place on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, usually between mid-September and early October after the autumn equinox.

Festivities will kick off with participants making lanterns by hand and eating free mooncakes, as families learn the significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival’s tradition of lantern-making.

Attendees will then carry their lanterns in a procession into Minoru Park, enjoying a concert by mezzo-soprano Renee Fajardo and guitarist Mark Richardson.

Admissions are:

  • Ages 2 and under – Free by emailing [email protected]
  • Ages 3 to 18 – $10 per person
  • Ages 19+ – $15 per person

Gateway Theatre executive artistic director Barbara Tomasic said they are honoured to host this year’s celebrations for the community of Richmond and beyond.

“Past attendees have enjoyed the inclusive atmosphere and playful programming, and Moonlight Magic: Mid-Autumn Celebration will be no different,” she said. “The procession from the theatre into Minoru Park will be a magical way to celebrate the evening.”
