The Green Party now has candidates for both Richmond ridings – Francoise Raunet, who ran in Richmond Centre in the last federal election, will be the candidate in Steveston Richmond-East.
Raunet, who lives in South Vancouver, joins Laura Gillanders in Richmond Centre as the Green candidates for the two ridings.
The federal election will take place on Sept. 20, just 23 months after the Liberals formed a minority government.
Raunet will be running against incumbent MP Kenny Chiu, who is a Conservative, NDP candidate Jack Trovato and Liberal candidate Parm Bains.
The Green Party has been undergoing internal issues over comments by a staff member of the leader, Annamie Paul, on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This caused one Green MP to cross the floor to the Liberals.
Raunet is an elementary school teacher, but she said she won’t be taking time off to campaign this time. Last election, she took a leave while campaigning.
