The city is seeking feedback on the flood protection design along the north dyke from Lynas Lane to No. 2 Road.
On July 24, the public is invited to attend an open house at the Austria Vancouver Club to learn about the north dyke flood protection plans and phase 1 of the Works Yard replacement project.
An online survey is also available on LetsTalkRichmond.ca from now until Sept. 8.
In response to climate change, the City of Richmond is proposing a 330-metre-long upgrade between Lynas Lane and No. 2 Road to raise the dyke by 1.5 metres.
The dyke will be raised inland to reduce impact to the foreshore.
According to the proposed site plan, the upgrades will include rip rap along the dyke, grand stairs with slope planting, a multi-use pathway, a gravel dyke trail and a bench along the gravel trail.
The project is expected to benefit the area by improving flood protection and pedestrian and vehicle safety and providing a new road surface and a new multi-use pathway, said the city.
The city also plans to rebuild the Lynas Lane Works Yard over the next seven to 10 years, which will include raising the property to 4.7 metres above sea level.
Richmond city council's general purposes committee approved the key design parameters and guiding principles for the Works Yard project during Monday's meeting and city staff were directed to provide monthly progress updates. City staff are expected to return to council in the fall with a complete breakdown of the phases and the program.
The open house will be held at the Austria Vancouver Club at 5851 Westminster Hwy on July 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. More information on the project is available on LetsTalkRichmond.ca.
