The southbound lanes on Hwy 99 and the Cambie Road overpass are currently closed due to a commercial vehicle collision with the bridge deck.
An oversized load heading south on Hwy 99 at around 12 p.m. had dislodged and fell onto a passing pickup truck in the fast lane, according to Curtis Kreklau, an eye witness.
Kreklau also told the News that the load had crushed the front passenger seat, but the driver "narrowly escaped serious injury."
"Both roads will be closed for an unknown amount of time as engineers assess the damage to the overpass," said Richmond RCMP.
The police has advised that southbound travellers detour by way of the No 4 Road or Shell Road exit off ramps, and northbound traffic on Hwy 99 is not affected at the moment.
