Two Richmond Ravens teams grabbed gold on home ice last weekend at the 8th annual Pacific Coast Female Rep Classic Hockey Tournament.
Almost 40 teams came from across B.C. and Alberta to compete for titles in three division, U13, U15 and U18 at Richmond Ice Centre.
And the host’s U13 and U18 teams won their respective divisions, with the latter sailing through the round robin portion of the tournament with a 3-0 record.
They then beat Lower Mainland rival Abbotsford Ice in the semi-final before facing the highly-touted Calgary Fire team in the final.
The gold medal game was fast and close the entire time, with the Fire holding onto a one-goal lead until the Ravens tied it up late on.
And during a 4 on 4 in overtime the Ravens clinched it, sending the home team racing off the bench in celebration.
Meanwhile, the U13A Ravens trod a similar path to their older clubmates, dominating the round robin section, winning all four games before coming head to head with their old rivals, the Surrey Falcons, for the championship title.
It was a hard-fought game, with a total of 19 penalties, 12 for Surrey and seven for Richmond, who tied the game in dramatic fashion with a goal with just 4.6 seconds left on the clock.
The resultant 4 on 4 overtime started as a 3 on 3 due to penalties on both teams, but it was the Ravens who pulled through with the game winner with just over a minute left on the game clock.
