IHIT find car belonging to Richmond murder victim

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says they have recovered a vehicle belonging to a 25-year-old homicide victim in Richmond.

Theoren Gregory Poitras was killed in the West Cambie area on Oct. 2. He was known to Alberta police for gang activity.

He was understood to be a resident of Richmond at the time of his death. Poitras was known to police and was believed to be affiliated to gang activity in Alberta.

Investigators say they believe Poitras died as the result of a targeted shooting and the suspect or suspects immediately departed the crime scene following the shooting.

They say the motive has not been confirmed.

According to police, Poitras was in possession of a red 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara that was taken from the crime scene following the shooting.

This car has been recovered in Pitt Meadows in November 2014 and forensic analysis has recently confirmed it to be the victim’s vehicle.

A family friend, Petula Maxwell, told the News how Poitras grew up in the Cree Nation, raised by his single mother, who lives in Edmonton.
