Investigators have launched an online portal to help gather evidence of the fatal shooting at Vancouver International Airport last week, which has been linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
The evidence submission portal, set up by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) and Richmond RCMP, will allow people with dashcam footage, video or photos of the shooting to easily share them with police.
On May 9 at around 3 p.m., 28-year-old Karman Grewal was fatally shot outside the international departure area at YVR.
Two or more suspects fled the scene in a red or maroon Honda Pilot reportedly firing at an RCMP cruiser, striking the windshield, however, no officers were injured.
The Honda Pilot was last seen in the area of Sea Island Way and Garden City Road. Shortly afterwards, just before 3:30 p.m., a burning vehicle was found in an alleyway near the 9700-block of Princess Drive in Surrey.
Anyone with dashcam video, other video surveillance footage and/or photos from those three locations – YVR airport around 3 p.m., particularly outside the international departures area; Sea Island Way and Garden City Road, where the Honda Pilot was last seen; and near the alleyway in Surrey where the car was found burning around 3:30 p.m. – is urged to submit it to investigators through the online portal.
The website states that anyone submitting information through portal will not be able to do so anonymously.
“Information provided using this portal is NOT ANONYMOUS. You may be required to testify in court as a witness,” the website reads.
If anyone experiences any difficulty with the website, they are asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448, and leave their contact information so that an investigator can help them troubleshoot the problem.
