New Japanese fish-shaped cake spot coming to Richmond's food street

Sweet-filled taiyaki, soft serve ice cream, and drink store to join Richmond's food scene.

A new dessert store is joining Richmond's food scene and famous "food street" sometime this summer.

Little Pisces, known for its taiyaki (fish-shaped cake) and soft serve, opened their first store on North Road in Burnaby last year and has already started on renovations for its second Metro Vancouver location.

The Japanese dessert and snack shop is taking over the former Me and Crepe's spot in Golden Plaza along Alexandra Road.

Its menu includes Japanese fish-shaped cakes with fillings including red bean paste, Nutella, ube and custard, as well as soft serve ice cream with flavours like banana milk, hojicha, mango sorbet, yakult or a mix of the flavours.

The store also offers drinks such as hojicha (roasted green tea), passionfruit green tea, matcha strawberry lattes and more.

However, owners Linda Dai and Jacky Tian are looking into having exclusive Richmond-only flavours to "keep things fresh" between their two locations.

Dai said having a store in Richmond has always been on their radar with the city's "strong concentration of really amazing restaurants, dessert, and drink spots."

In addition, many of their customers have been asking for a location closer to the west of Metro Vancouver.

Starting business small

Little Pisces started their food venture running taiyaki pop-ups in the spring of 2024, including at craft markets in Vancouver.

"We feel very fortunate and lucky to be in the position to open up a second location, and we have to thank our community of customers and the Little Pisces team for helping us along on this journey," said Dai.

Renovations for the new Richmond store are coming along with an expected  "slow start" trying to figure out the store layout, Dai explained.

They are looking to open in time for summer, but are not ruling out unexpected delays when it comes to "store build-outs."

Little Pisces's new location will be at #128-8531 Alexandra Rd.
