Looking for help finding that significant other?

Advice for singles looking to find a life partner will be forthcoming from a Jewish matchmaker and dating coach at an event in Richmond next month.

Aleeza Ben Shalom, the host of Netflix’s Jewish Matchmaking, will be at the River Rock Show Theatre on Nov. 27 to have a conversation with single guests about searching for their life partner.

“Lots of people are looking to marry and to settle down,” said Rabbi Yechiel Baitelman of Chabad Richmond, the Jewish centre that is organizing the event.

“Finding the right person can be both an exciting time, but it can also be a challenging time, and how do you know who is the right person? How do you make that decision? Where do you go to find that person? What’s the best method? There’s so many questions that go into this most important decision in life.”

Rather than have live matchmaking on stage, Baitelman said Shalom will guide guests on how the process might work, talk about her experience on the hit show and participate in a question-and-answer session with the audience.

The event is open to anyone - not just Jewish people looking for love.

Baitelman hopes guests will leave the event with information on how to find their life partner or help their family members and friends find theirs.

“I get calls often from people — and lately more often — either asking for advice or guidance or even asking if I may know someone who might be compatible (with) them and that I might be able to introduce them,” Baitelman said.

“So that’s an interesting phenomenon, and in Judaism especially, the value of helping someone marry with their life’s partner is considered one of the highest forms of kindness that you can do for someone.”

He added matchmaking is an introduction between two people and is about looking at compatibility.

Chabad Richmond organized the event after becoming familiar with Shalom through her show and by her visiting different communities across North America.

“She’s a wonderful personality,” Baitelman said. “She’s got a bubbly, joyous, can-do personality. I think that will be quite entertaining, but the takeaways in her wisdom and her experience will be fantastic.”

The event will be on Nov. 27 with doors opening at 7 p.m. in the River Rock Show Theatre. Tickets start at $54 and can be purchased on www.chabadrichmond.com/matchmaker.
