The BC NDP candidate in Richmond-Steveston is Kelly Greene.
The former chamber president Matt Pitcairn is running against her for the BC Liberals in Richmond-Steveston after long-time BC Liberal MLA John Yap decided not to seek re-election.
While Greene told the Richmond News earlier that she didn’t plan to run, she said she had a “heart-to-heart” conversation with a friend about women and leadership. She then got a call from Premier John Horgan about running.
“I feel responsible to this community to do the best, not just for today but for the future,” Greene told the Richmond News.
The election, which Premier John Horgan called a year early last week, will take place on Oct. 24.
The BC Liberals had all four Richmond candidates in place last week, but the BC NDP have only announced three of four.
In addition to Greene, Aman Singh will try to unseat incumbent Jas Johal in Richmond-Queensborough and community activist Henry Yao will try to win the seat in Richmond South Centre. Richmond city Coun. Alexa Loo is the BC Liberal candidate in Richmond South Centre.
Teresa Wat is running for re-election in Richmond North Centre, but the BC NDP have not announced a candidate in that riding yet.
