The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says a kimchi product is being recalled from the marketplace over possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination.
T-Brothers Food & Trading Ltd. Is recalling its Hankook brand Original Kimchi (Korean characters only), which has been sold in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The details of the affected product are:

Hankook (Korean characters only) | Original Kimchi | 1670 g | 6 23431 00030 4 | Best Before 22JA29 |
According to CFIA’s recall notice, food contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make people sick. The recall was triggered by a CFIA investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak, and the agency said there have been reported illnesses linked to this product.
“Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea,” the recall notice reads.
“In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.”
CFIA advises anyone who thinks they became sick from consuming a recalled product to call their doctor.
The recalled product should not be consumed, CFIA said, and should be thrown out or returned to the store it was purchased from.
The agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to more products being recalled.
The CFIA says it is also verifying that the industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.
