Richmond’s Lansdowne Centre fundraised and donated more than $5,000 to the local food bank to help community members in need.
In addition to the cash donation totalling $5,479, the T&T supermarket at Lansdowne also directly donated another 370 lbs of non-perishable items to the Richmond Food Bank.
In early February, Lansdowne Centre hosted its first-ever “tiger guessing contest” during its Lunar New Year celebrations.
Visitors could guess the weight of a giant cloth tiger, which was filled with dry, packaged food, in Lansdowne’s kiosk court. Visitors could join the contest by making a suggested cash donation of $5 to Richmond Food Bank.
After the month-long contest, $5,479 in cash and 370 lbs of food was raised to support the food bank.
Bronwyn Bailey, marketing manager of Lansdowne Centre, said she was humbled by the generosity of the Richmond community and the incredible work the local food bank has done to support neighours and individuals.
The person who came closest to guessing the weight of the packaged food in the cloth tiger has won $318 in gift cards to Lansdowne Centre.
