Kudos: Richmond high school students pitch in for the food bank

All 10 of Richmond’s secondary schools have teamed up to give one big push to help the Richmond Food Bank this festive season.

At the recent, district-wide TABLE38 meeting McRoberts Student Council proposed an initiative for all Richmond high school student councils to give back to the food bank.

They have set out to raise cash, supplies and awareness by organizing food drives and fundraisers, given that, during the pandemic, demand for the food bank has grown.

By spreading awareness throughout the school district, they hope to “support those who may be struggling and spread some holiday giving spirit.”

McRoberts’ student council, in particular, decided to contribute to the food bank in three ways: hosting a school-wide food drive, donating the majority of profits raised through their annual Candy Grams sale, and donating 2,000 masks to those who cannot access any.

Their goal is to collect 500 food items and raise $1,000 for the cause.
