A second temporary modular building in Richmond – Aster Place – is seeking a three-year extension.

After Richmond city council approved the extension of the Alderbridge Way modular building this fall, despite vocal opposition from nearby residents, an application has come to the city to extend the temporary use permit of Aster Place, located close to Costco.

City council approved the temporary use of the city-owned, industrial lot on Bridgeport Road in March 2021.

However, the building, which houses about 40 people who were at risk of being homeless, didn’t open until about 15 months ago.

As its three-year temporary permit runs out in March 2024, BC Housing is asking to extend that for another three years.

The permit extension of Aster Place will be dealt with at next week’s planning meeting and a public hearing is planned for Jan. 22.
