Letters: Red flags over EV ownership

A Richmond News reader believes the rush to buy electric vehicles will have consequences down the road

Dear Editor,

Re: “Pandemic car-buying spree threatens B.C. climate targets,” Online, Aug. 9

The article on EV ownership concerns was interesting. However it missed my main concern — overall electric capacity. Some areas of North America already have brownouts or blackouts.  With the push to add heat pumps and EVs we will soon run out of electricity.

It’s been a struggle to get Site C built so any further uninterruptible power from dams will be hard to create. Solar and wind can provide some intermittent power. Our headlong rush to EVs and away from fossil fuels could have disastrous results in a few years.
