The remains of a body found in a burned-out car in Vancouver on the weekend have been identified as a 23-year-old Richmond man.

The Vancouver Police Department have launched a murder investigation after Matthew Johnathan Hall was found last Saturday night as firefighters put out a car fire on Carolina Street just off Terminal Avenue.

Hall was known to police, say the VPD, which believes the killing was targeted. The case is now being treated as Vancouver's ninth homicide of the year.

STAND-OFF SUSPECT NAMED

The man who died in hospital after a police standoff outside the Starlight Casino in Queensborough has been named as Mehrdad Bayrami, 48, of Richmond.

The B.C. Coroners Service issued a press release Tuesday, identifying Bayrami as the man shot Nov. 8 after a five-hour long incident outside the casino, which led to the man suffering a gunshot wound to the body.

Police had responded after reports of shots being fired in the casino's parking lot.

Bayrami was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital, but died 10 days later.

The newly formed Independent Investigations Office has been tasked to investigate the shooting.
