A 53-year-old man has been charged after allegedly firing a gun, which resulted in a six-year-old boy being taken to hospital.
Fang Chi appeared in court Wednesday and has been charged with a series of firearms offences in connection with the gun incident that shocked a quiet family cul-de-sac in south Richmond on Tuesday.
Chi has been charged with pointing a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, using a firearm in a careless manner and criminal negligence causing bodily harm at a home in Whistler Court, just northwest of the Steveston Highway and Gilbert Road intersection.
Chi was not known to police and, according to Richmond RCMP, has expressed remorse for his actions.
The six-year-old boy, who was visiting from China, had surgery on Wednesday and is expected to make a full recovery.
Neighbours told how they heard a shot and some screaming, before witnessing a bleeding young boy being taken away in an ambulance.
We are very fortunate that the boys injuries werent more severe, said Richmond RCMPs Cpl. Sherrdean Turley.
We all need to keep in mind that firearms are extremely dangerous and need to be treated with respect.
The shooting happened around 1 p.m. on the 10,000-block of Whistler Court, a family-friendly L-shaped street lined with duplexes.
