The man was shot once in the face, a police spokesman told News 1130.

It followed an incident in which two groups of men were seen talking outside the Holiday Inn Airport Hotel in the 10700-block Cambie Road, near St. Edwards Drive, just before 1 a.m. on Sunday. Richmond RCMP serious crime investigators were interviewing a number of witnesses.

The victim has no gang-related ties, said the report.
