Man with knife arrested near Canada Line Lansdowne Station

Richmond RCMP officers responded to reports of a man carrying a knife near a train station this weekend. 

On Sunday, Dec. 1 at around 4:10 p.m., officers received reports of the individual in the 5400 block of No. 3 Road, near the Canada Line Lansdowne Station. 

The man was seen exiting a train, falling down an escalator and allegedly dropping a firearm, which was later identified to be an airsoft gun, said an RCMP release on Dec. 2. 

Witnesses also said the man was allegedly chasing after a woman. 

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after, and following a foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody. No injuries to civilians or officers were reported. 

The suspect was arrested for assault with a weapon and the investigation is ongoing, added the release. 

“We acknowledge the concern this incident may have caused in our community,” said Richmond RCMP operations officer Insp. Mike Roberts. He added officers acted quickly to address the situation and thanked the public’s assistance in reporting the incident.
