Update: Man dead after Richmond shooting, burned vehicle found nearby

Richmond resident recalls hearing multiple shots fired near Blundell and Gilbert roads

Richmond RCMP and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) are investigating a fatal shooting in Richmond city centre.

A Richmond News reader heard a rapid series of gunshots in the Minler Road neighbourhood near Blundell and Gilbert roads at around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Around 10 Richmond RCMP cruisers were spotted at the scene.

Photos and video submitted by Shane MacKichan show a yellow tarp covering an object on the ground, along with RCMP officers surrounding the area.

According to Cpl. Dennis Hwang, Richmond RCMP spokesperson, frontline officers attended the scene and found a "critically injured man."

"First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced deceased on scene," he said.

Hwang added that a car found "fully engulfed in flames" was found 10 minutes later on Blundell Road near Highway 99. Police are working to determine whether the vehicle is connected to the shooting.

IHIT has assumed conduct of the investigation and the Milner Road area has been cordoned off for police investigation.

Anyone who was near the 8000 block of Milner Road or the 12000 block of Blundell Road between 5 and 6 p.m. are asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected]. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
