People were evacuated out of Richmond's Brighouse library after a man was found in medical distress on Thursday afternoon.
Richmond RCMP and Emergency Health Services responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. on March 21 to an emergency call at the Brighouse library on Minoru Gate.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving techniques immediately when they arrived.
"Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased," said Cpl. James Grandy, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.
Richmond RCMP and BC Coroners Services are investigating the incident and the man's next of kin has been notified.
There is no risk to public safety related to the incident, Grandy added.
The City of Richmond announced on social media platforms all libraries will be closed on Friday, March 22 and are expected to re-open on Saturday.
The museum and the rest of the cultural centre remains open.
Richmond RCMP is warning social media users of online posts "spreading misinformation" related to yesterday's incident.
"These posts are not based on facts and should be ignored," said Sgt. Samec, with the Richmond RCMP, in an email to the media.
