Fancy buying the River Rock Casino for $290, the Olympic Oval for $375 or even YVR for just $175?
How about becoming the mayor of Richmond?
A warning, however, if you eat too much dim sum, you are at risk of being thrown out of the city altogether.
All of the above are available courtesy of a new Richmond-centric Monopoly board game being released on Monday, April 5 at Walmart in Richmond and the store’s website.
Made by Victoria-based Outset Media, Richmond-Opoly – understood to be priced around $30 - has turned one of the world’s best-selling board games into our beautiful city.
As well as the aforementioned Richmond landmarks, the game features spots on the board for the night market ($90), Bridgeport Road ($250), Minoru Arenas ($70), the UBC Boathouse, all the Canada Line stations, the shopping centres and all of the city’s major festivals.
City hall is conspicuous by its absence and, sadly, the Richmond News also failed to make the cut.
The game’s cover also features Richmond-themed artwork depicting the barn at Terra Nova, float planes, coyotes and fishing boats.
“These games were created to help people appreciate some things they cherish about their community,” said Jean-Paul Teskey, senior vice-president of Outset Media.
“The support that communities across Canada have given these games has made it possible for Outset Media to add dozens of additional cities and towns in brand new games that will be released throughout 2021!”
Outset Media has produced more than 100 localized versions of the games for bigger cities in Canada and is about to release a whole host of smaller municipalities, including:
