Local businesses are being warned by Richmond RCMP about trailers being stolen in the city.
Since Sept. 20, RCMP received three reports of trailers stolen from local businesses.
The alleged thefts were from a closed and gated business in the Viking Way area, an open and gated business with security in the No. 8 Road area and a closed and ungated business in the Burdette Street area.
The total value of stolen trailers was more than $60,000.
An investigation found the alleged thefts were done using four semi-trucks, which were also reported stolen from Delta and Richmond.
While the two semi-trucks from Delta have been found, but the ones from Richmond are still missing.
“While we cannot conclusively link these thefts at this time, there are a number of similar factors that lead us to believe further thefts may occur which is why we are warning our local businesses,” said Sgt. Russel Yugai with the Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Support Unit.
“It is apparent the individuals involved in these thefts have knowledge around semi-trailers and commercial shipping operations which is why we are recommending that businesses put additional measures in place to protect their trailers and containers."
Yugai suggested using GPS trackers, on-site security or increasing general security measures around the businesses.
Investigations remain active and ongoing.
