Pathways Clubhouse and the library are partnering to educate Richmondites on overdoses and to provide naloxone training.

A session “Supporting People Together: The Basics of Overdose Response” will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5 at Brighouse library.

The session can be attended in person or virtually from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The session will include information about recognizing the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, how opioids and naloxone affect the body, and how to respond to an overdose using naloxone.

Those who attend in person will receive training supplies and naloxone kits to take home.

Naloxone is used to reverse an opioid overdose, which can cause someone to stop breathing.

So far this year, 15 people have died in Richmond from overdoses and toxic-drug poisonings, according to the BC Coroners Service. In B.C., 174 people died in August of suspected drug poisonings.

In 2022, BC Ambulance responded to 356 overdose calls in Richmond.
