A series of educational workshops are being offered in Richmond throughout June to celebrate the heritage and strength of Indigenous Peoples.

The City of Richmond's programming for National Indigenous History Month, which takes place in June along with National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, will include free and paid activities catering to all ages.

Free activities include cedar bracelet weaving workshops for kids ages six to 12 years old, a dance workshop with the Wild Moccasin Dancers for students grades 3 to 5 and writing workshops for kids and adults by local author Brandon Reid.

The Richmond Museum will also provide free family-friendly take-home activity kits from June 14 to 21 for community members to learn about the cedar tree and its significance. The kits will include video content by Musqueam weaver Vivian Mearns Notaro along with craft materials, and advanced registration is required.

On June 15, Musqueam artists Rita Kompst and Zoe Kompst will hold a Coast Salish cedar weaving workshop where participants will create a unique basket using locally harvested cedar. The workshop is open to participants aged 19 or above and costs $110 per person.
