Richmond RCMP moves into its new home next week -- the Richmond Community Safety Building.
The building, just south of the No. 5 Road and Steveston Highway intersection, opens its doors to the public on Saturday, Oct. 1.
The new detachment is in the building that formally housed the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit.
All of the RCMP's office staff and members, previously housed in various locations around the city, will be accommodated in the new facility.
"This includes various volunteer-supported groups such as Victims Services and our Auxiliaries, who play an integral part in the community policing model which we strive for in Richmond," said Supt. Rennie Nesset.
"The old detachment served the members and the community well over the years. But, we simply outgrew it."
Another special feature of the new community safety building is its green elements and the recycling of an older building to meet the LEED Canada Gold Standards.
Richmond RCMP said the remodeled and "innovative facility" allows the police to offer new services and continue to "improve its capacity to tackle crime and keep the community of Richmond safe."
"The new detachment will have a fresh look and an inviting appearance and is designed to be more functional for employees," added Supt. Nesset.
It will officially open its doors on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 8 a.m. at the new location of 11411 No. 5 Rd.
The detachment's mobile command centre will remain in its current location downtown for a month to notify people who arrive at the old site of the change.
A dedication ceremony, which officially commemorates the opening of the new Richmond RCMP Detachment, will be held Nov. 7.
