The new Richmond-Brighouse Station Bus Exchange has officially opened, with five bus routes and a night bus operating from it.
Last year, an average weekday saw nearly 12,000 transit users using the on-street bus exchange at No. 3 Road, according to TransLink.
The new bus loop, which is directly south of the Brighouse Canada Line station, will improve traffic flow and provide a more “spacious and convenient transfer point” for bus users, added the transit company.
Waiting areas with large bus shelters, enhanced lighting, new crosswalks and a specific HandyDART pick-up location are some of the features included at the bus exchange.
Bus routes that have moved into the loop include:
- Route 402 (Brighouse Station / Two Road)
- Route 404 (Brighouse Station / Four Road)
- Route 406 (Brighouse Station / Steveston)
- Route 408 (Brighouse Station / Ironwood / Riverport)
- Route 414 (Brighouse Station / Richmond Oval)
- The N10 NightBus (Richmond / Downtown)
“Centrally located in Richmond, this new bus loop improves the customer service and will be able to serve a growing number of commuters over many years to come,” said Kevin Desmond, CEO of TransLink.
The $8.5 million project was paid for through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF), with an additional $2 million from the City of Richmond for the loop design.
PTIF is funded by the Government of Canada (50 per cent), the Government of B.C. (33 per cent) and TransLink (17 per cent).
