A new community garden is coming to Alexandra Neighbourhood Park.

A 7,000-square-foot community garden is starting to form at a Richmond park.

The community garden at Alexandra Neighbourhood Park has begun to take shape with the iconic red tool shed and fencing just east of the Lulu Island Energy District building on Odlin Road.

The garden, managed by Urban Bounty, will have 34 ground plots and two raised wheelchair-accessible boxes as well as amenities such as irrigation, picnic tables and benches.

Alexandra Neighbourhood Park was chosen after a city consultation last year during a search for a possible site for community gardens in the Hamilton and West Cambie areas.

There are currently around 400 individual garden plots in over 15 locations across Richmond, including the Railway Greenway, Terra Nova Rural Park, Cook Community Garden, King George and Paulik Park.

Cheney Creamer, executive director of Urban Bounty, said they will begin building the plots in a few weeks.

In the meantime, interested gardeners can sign up for the waitlist by clicking here.
