A new chair and vice-chair of the Richmond Board of Education were elected in late 2023.

Trustees Heather Larson and Debbie Tablotney were both nominated for the role of chairperson for the school board.

Larson was acclaimed as chair after Tablotney "respectfully declined" the nomination at the Nov. 22 meeting.

Tablotney was the chair for the past two years.

"I would like to thank colleagues for placing your trust in me for the role of chairperson," said Larson after the acclamation.

"I'm really honoured and excited to take on this responsibility and I look forward to connecting and working with each of you and our partners (in) our community to fulfill our vision and our values."

Meanwhile, trustees Ken Hamaguchi and Donna Sargent were both nominated for the role of vice-chair for the school board.

Hamaguchi received the majority of votes and was elected as the new vice-chair.

Tablotney will be the representative to the BC Public School Employers' Association.

Trustee David Yang was elected as the BC School Trustees Association representative with Trustee Alice Wong as the alternate representative.
