Richmond RCMP is appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage after a pedestrian died following a collision with a pickup truck in the early hours of Sunday.

At around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, police were called to the 8500 block of Cambie Road, close to Sexsmith Road, in north Richmond, where a pedestrian had been struck.

The pedestrian, whose age or sex has not been released, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since died.

The driver, say the RCMP, has been cooperative with police.

The RCMP have ruled out alcohol and speed as contributing factors in the collision.

“Pedestrians are encouraged to use marked crosswalks when possible, and to make eye contact with the driver before crossing a road so they know to stop for you,” said Const. Kenneth Lau.

“It is especially important now, with rainier days and longer nights affecting driver visibility.”

Richmond RCMP is seeking witnesses or dashcam footage of the incident. If you have any information, contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or [email protected]. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca, quoting file number 2020-29866.
