A person stuck in the mud off the West Dyke Trail resulted in a multi-hour rescue involving Richmond Fire-Rescue, RCMP, BC Ambulance and the Coast Guard.
Someone walked into the mudflats off the trail in west Richmond near Blundell Road in early November and sank into the mud up to their knees, according to Richmond Fire-Rescue.
Due to the weather, darkness and their location several hundred metres from the trail, Richmond firefighters had “great difficulty” finding the person, stated fire chief Jim Wishlove in a report going to city council next week.
The person was eventually found by firefighters and they were able to remove them from the mud and help them onto a Coast Guard hovercraft.
The person was exhausted, Richmond Fire reported, but didn’t sustain any significant injuries.
