Photo and video: Do you remember the Sexsmith Bus Loop snack bar?

It seems like many Richmondites have very fond memories of the food served up there back in the 1970s

Whether it was the “legendary” spring or egg rolls or the famous fries and gravy, it seems everyone has a fond memory of the snack bar at the old Sexsmith Bus Loop in Richmond.

A photo of the café, dated around 1977, was published on Facebook this week by the Friends of the Richmond Archives.

And it sparked a slew of comments from Richmondites who recall the hazy days when they would ride the bus from across the city and even from Vancouver, just to get their hands on one of the café’s signature snacks.

As well as the rolls, one poster on Facebook paid tribute to the snack bar’s lemon pie, while others remembered the juke box which, apparently, was always playing Long Cool Woman by the Hollies, or The Big Bopper, Chantilly Lace.

Another former resident reminisced about spending her time at the bus loop and snack bar - on Sexsmith and Capstan Way - while skipping school.

While one woman remembered, back in the ‘70s, how she would travel from Vancouver via the No. 60 Richmond Express bus after buying a “Sunday Pass.”
