The Steveston community was reeling on Saturday from the loss of Super Grocer & Pharmacy.
When firefighters arrived on Friday around 5 p.m., there was smoke pouring out of the building on three sides. There was a fear the building would collapse so it could only be fought from the outside.
On Saturday, the flowers were still in their sidewalk display racks at the front of the store, but it appeared the inside of the building had collapsed.
There were no reports of injuries to firefighters or the public.
Messages on social media mourned the loss of the Steveston grocery store.
Robyn Hanson wrote on X that it was "an institution," with a "caring pharmacy" and the "best floral shop."
Janey Wilson described the scene as "absolutely heartbreaking."
"Lived here my entire life and can’t tell you how many times I have walked up here for a thing or two. Always purchased my flowers here, they had the best flower department," she added on her post on X.
Super Grocer & Pharmacy was located in a building constructed in 1958.
Not only was it a grocery store for many Steveston residents, Super Grocer was also where many went to get their medications.
The City of Richmond put out a public notice for anyone dependent on medications at Super Grocer, saying they should take their prescription or pill bottle and a valid piece of ID to another pharmacy or their doctor for an emergency supply.
