Given that the kids went back to school yesterday, we thought we would take a timely step back in time to one of Richmond’s more picturesque buildings.

The original General Currie School, on General Currie Road near No. 3 Road and Granville Avenue, was built around 1920.

However, this photo from the City of Richmond archives was taken around 1976 and shows how well the design has stood the test of time.

And if you know the school at all, you will notice how much the original design played a part in today’s much-expanded building.

The old schoolhouse was a one room, one storey gabled structure designed by Joseph Bowman, an architect responsible for a number of Vancouver schools.
