Update: Truck crash takes down street light in Richmond

Driver handed 24-hour driving prohibition.

Downed power lines after a vehicle incident in Richmond had an intersection blocked off on Saturday evening.

Richmond RCMP officers responded to No. 1 Road and Osmond Avenue, across from Hugh Boyd secondary, shortly after 9 p.m. on July 13 for a single-vehicle collision into a pole.

The truck collided with a light pole resulting in downed power lines.

The driver of the truck was served a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded under the Motor Vehicle Act, according to Cpl. Adriana O'Malley, spokesperson of Richmond RCMP.

In photos submitted to the News, the power lines can be seen hooked to the top of the truck while the traffic light and lamp post on Osmond Avenue is spotted on the ground.

Some community members were also asked to leave the area due to "live lines" at the time.
