Richmond’s famous Highway to Heaven had an equally famous visitor last week.
Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre stopped by the India Cultural Centre of Canada Gurdwara Nanak Niwas on No. 5 Road on Friday to pay his respects during Vaisakhi.
Poilievre was accompanied by the likes of the party’s Deputy Leader and Edmonton MP, Tim Oppal, Calgary MP and finance critic, Jasraj Hallan and South Surrey-White Rock MP Keri Lynne Finlay.
Members of the Gurdwara management committee welcomed Poilievre and his party, which visited the “Darbar (prayer) Hall” to pay their respects.
Gurdwara management committee member Balwant Sanghera said they were “honoured” by the visit and gave a brief talk about the history and accomplishments of the Gurdwara.
As a token of the Gurdwara’s appreciation, its president, Ubed Singh Sidhu, presented Poilievre with a set of books, one of which was prepared by the Gurdwara Nanak Niwas in 2019 at the time of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s 550th “birth anniversary.”
