Police, hotel staff talk woman off Richmond window ledge

A woman was rescued from a third floor window of a Richmond hotel after a report she about to jump.

A woman was rescued from a third floor window of a Richmond hotel after a report she about to jump.

On Tuesday afternoon around noon, Richmond RCMP received a report from staff at the Sandman Hotel off Bridgeport Road that a woman staying on the third floor was trying to jump out her window.

When police arrived, officers found the woman leaning out of her window.

They tried to speak to her, but she was yelling not making any sense.

One officer remained on the ground and continued to speak to the woman, while another officer made his way inside the hotel.

Once inside the womans room, the officer found a hotel staff member and a tour guide also trying to talk to the woman.

The officer moved quickly behind the woman, grabbed a hold of her and began to pull her back into her room.

The staff member and tour guide helped the officer pull the woman to safety.

She was then arrested under the Mental Health Act and was taken to the Richmond Hospital to be assessed by a doctor.

Richmond RCMPs Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said in a press release that the detachment was grateful to the hotel staff member and tour guide for helping save the womans life.
